    Abstract:

A pair of Mise porcelain bowls with lacquer decoration employing gold and silver inlay were unearthed from the underground palace of Famen Temple in 1987. They are rare and precious objects perfectly combining Mise, gold and silver inlay and lacquering crafts. A preliminary study of lacquering techniques was conducted through analysis of lacquer fragments using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS) and infrared spectrometry (IR), in order to provide a reliable reference for the study of the history of science and technology, conservation and restoration, etc.
