The development of Internet of Things（IOT） has brought new opportunities to the protection of cultural heritage. This paper analyzes the developing processes from “Digital Earth” to “Smart Earth”, pointing out that Internet of Things is the key technique to achieve “Smart Earth”. Analysis of the core technology of Digital Earth[JX*6][CD*2][JX-*6]GIS technology in the role of Internet of Things, and explanation with examples of GIS application methods based on Internet of Things are made. Finally, prospects of applications of Internet of Things in cultural heritage protection and strategy suggestions of Internet of Things applications in museum and cultural fields are given.
